IND vs SL: India enter semi-finals, thrash Sri Lanka by 55 runs.


Team India defeated Sri Lanka by 302 runs and entered the semi-finals of the World Cup. Sri Lanka did not meet the challenge of 358 runs given by India. His entire team was bowled out for 55 runs.

 

This is India’s seventh consecutive win in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. With this victory, Team India has 14 points.

 

Architect of victory

The Indian fast bowler trio of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Siraj and Mohammad Shami was the architect of this victory.

Mohammad Shami continued his impressive form in this tournament and took 5 wickets. Shami has achieved the feat of taking five wickets in a single match for the third time in the history of ODI World Cup. Shami is the only Indian bowler to achieve this feat.

Shami also became the bowler who took the most wickets (45) in the One Day World Cup. He has done this performance in only 14 matches.

Mohammad Shami has played only three matches in this World Cup. In that he has taken 14 wickets.

Earlier, Shami took 5 wickets for 54 runs against New Zealand and 4 wickets for 22 runs against England. He took this performance even higher against Sri Lanka. He took 5 wickets in just 18 runs.

Shami was awarded the man of the match award for this tremendous performance.

Bumrah- Siraj’s spell

Jasprit Bumrah gave Team India a strong start in bowling as well. Bumrah dismissed Pathum Nishanka for a wicket on the very first ball of Sri Lanka’s innings.

After Bumrah, Mohammad Siraj also took a wicket on the first ball. He gave Sri Lanka another blow by dismissing Karunaratne for a wicket.

In the previous Asia Cup final between India and Sri Lanka, Siraj scored 21 runs and took 6 wickets. Siraj maintained the same form. Sri Lanka have lost the first 2 wickets for 2 runs.

Siraj immediately gave Sri Lanka their third shock. He dismissed Sadira Samarvikram for zero. Shreyas Iyer took his catch.

Siraj, who took two wickets in the first over, continues in the second over as well. He bowled Sri Lankan captain Kushal Mendis on the very first ball of the second over. Mendis is out for 1 run.

Sri Lanka’s first four batsmen were dismissed for 3 runs.

Mohammed Shami took a wicket in the first over as did Bumrah and Siraj. Shami dismissed Charith Ashlanka to give Sri Lanka their fifth blow. Ashlanka scored only 1 run after playing as many as 24 balls.

Half of Sri Lanka’s team is back at 14 runs from 10 overs.

Like Sri Lanka’s top-order batsman, Dushan Hemanta also returned with only an appearance. Shami dismissed him on the very first ball

Sri Lanka have lost 6 wickets for just 14 runs.

Mohammed Shami gave Sri Lanka the seventh blow. He dismissed Dushmantha Chamira for zero. K.L. Rahul took a good catch. Sri Lanka have lost 7 wickets for just 22 runs.

 Sri Lanka’s eighth wicket also went quickly. Mohammed Shami dismissed Angelo Mathews to give India their eighth win.

Mohammad Shami is in great form in this World Cup. He has maintained that form against Sri Lanka as well. He has taken 4 wickets in just 13 balls so far in this match.

Mohammad Shami also took his fifth wicket quickly. He dismissed Kasun Rajitha for 14 runs.

This is the third time Shami has taken the record of taking five wickets in a single match in the ODI World Cup. He is the only Indian to achieve this feat.

 

How was India’s first innings?

Sri Lanka won the toss and invited India to bat first. India then scored 357 for 8 in 50 overs.

After that, Sri Lanka’s innings collapsed in front of the Indian bowlers.

Skipper Rohit Sharma was dismissed early in the innings and Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill scored half-centuries to save India’s innings.

Virat Kohli was dismissed on 88 runs when it seemed that Virat Kohli would equal Sachin Tendulkar’s record of most centuries in ODIs.

 

Shubman Gill, who was on the brink of a century before that, also returned to the tent on 92 after hitting a mishit. When India’s innings was in crisis due to the loss of one wicket after another, vice-captain K. L. Rahul and Shreyas Iyer saved India’s innings.

In an attempt to increase the running speed, K. L. After Rahul’s dismissal, Shreyas Iyer’s knock of 82 helped India reach a respectable total. At the end of the innings, Ravindra Jadeja scored 35 runs in 24 balls.

Gill-Virat partnership

Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli’s 189-run partnership for the second wicket was the highlight of the Indian innings.

Team India got off to a bad start in this match. After the in-form Rohit Sharma was dismissed for just 4 runs, the pair of Shubman and Virat salvaged India’s innings.

Shubman, who is considered the future of Indian batting, played alongside Vira. He completed his second half-century in this tournament in 55 balls.

After half a century Shubman became more aggressive. He started his march towards the century by hitting two sixes. But, he missed his century by just 8 runs. He was dismissed for 92 runs.

 

Waiting for Virat

Virat Kohli will have to wait longer to equal Sachin Tendulkar’s record for most centuries in ODI cricket. Virat fell 12 runs short of equaling Sachin in the match in Mumbai.

Virat Kohli fell on Madushanka’s off cutter. Pathum Nishanka who was fielding cover took his catch.

This is Virat Kohli’s fourth half-century in this tournament. Three of these times he has been dismissed between 80 and 100 runs. Earlier he was dismissed for 85 against Australia and 95 against New Zealand.

Shreyas-Rahul continued the run rate after Gill and Virat were dismissed one after the other. The duo shared a partnership of 60 runs in 47 balls for the fourth wicket.

Dushmanta Chamira broke this pair. He dismissed Rahul for 21 runs.

Suryakumar Yadav, who came to bat at number six, had a good start by hitting fours. But, he could not bat for long. Madushanka dismissed him for 12 runs to give India their fifth blow.
